Question 47

A, B, C and D are four consecutive even numbers respectively and their average is 61. What is the product of A and D ?

Solution

Let the four consecutive even numbers be A, B, C and D.

Since they are consecutive even numbers, we can express them in terms of A as:

B = A + 2

C = A + 4

D = A  + 6

We are given that their average is 61.

Hence, ( A + B + C + D)/4 = 61

Or, A + B + C + D = 244

Replacing B, C and D

A + A + 2 + A + 4 + A + 6 = 244

4A = 232

A = 58

Hence, B, C and D are respectively 60, 62 and 64.

We need to find A * D

Hence, 58 * 64 = 3712
