In an examination, 35% of the students passed and 455 failed. How many students appeared for the examination ?

Solution

If 35% of total students passed, then 65% failed.

Let the total number of students be x.

$$\frac{65}{100} x = 455$$ => x = 700

So, the answer would be option a)700
