4 years ago, the ratio of Vikah's to Rahul's age was 3: 5. After 6 years, this ratio would become 4: 5. Find present age of Rahul.

Let the present age of vikas and Rahul be x and y

Given that 4 years ago, the ratio of Vikas’s to Rahul’s age was 3 : 5

⇒ $$\frac{x-4}{y-4}$$ = $$\frac{3}{5}$$

⇒ 5x - 20 = 3y - 12

⇒ 5x - 3y = 8 ----equation (1)

Also given that after 6 years, this ratio would become 4 : 5

⇒  $$\frac{x+6}{y+6}$$ = $$\frac{4}{5}$$

⇒ 5x + 30 = 4y + 24

⇒ 5x - 4y = - 6 ----eqaution (2)

By subtracting equation (2) from equation (1), we get

y = 14

∴ Present age of Rahul y = 14 years
