Question 43

In the following question below are given some statements followed by some conclusions based on those statements. Taking the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts. Read all the conclusions and then decide which of the given conclusion logically follows the given statements.
Statements:
I. All prime are even.
II. Some even are odd.
Conclusions:
I. Some odd are prime.
II. All odd are even.
III. No odd is prime.

Solution

The relation between prime , even and odd can be represented by the following venn diagram.

I. Some odd are prime.

There is not any direct relationship between the given entities. so the given conclusion does not follow.

II. All odd are even.

from the given venn diagram, 'some odd are even.' is given. but we cannot say about the given conclusion. so the given conclusion does not follow.

III. No odd is prime.

There is not any direct relationship between the given entities. so the given conclusion does not follow.

Here conclusions I and III are making the case of either or where at a time any of the given conclusion is possible.

So, the answer would be option d)Either conclusion I or III follows.
