Question 42

In 2009, 65% of students enrolled in institute B were male. If the respective ratio between number of male students enrolled in institutes A and B in 2009 was 3 : 4, what was the number of male students enrolled in institute A in the same year ?

Solution

Number of students enrolled in institute B in 2009 = 240
Number of male students in Institute B in 2009 = 65% of 240 = 0.65 $$\times$$ 240 = 156
Ratio between number of male students in Institutes A and B in 2009 = 3 : 4
Let the number of male students in institute A be x.
x : 156 = 3 : 4
x = (3 $$\times$$ 156) : 4
x = 3 $$\times$$ 39
x= 117
Option B is the correct answer
