Completing the physical examination, the tonsils were found to be diseased.

Here, we observe that only Option C corrects the dangling modifier in the original sentence. The original sentence implies that the tonsils were completing the physical examination, which is illogical. Option C clarifies that the physical examination was completed by someone (perhaps a doctor), and then the tonsils were found to be diseased; this makes the sentence grammatically correct and logically clear. Option B also suffers the same issue as the original sentence (the structure in Option A): it suggests that the tonsils completed the physical exam. On the other hand, Option D has an awkward and unclear structure - the subordinate clause has an incorrect verb form. 

Hence, Option C is the correct choice.
