By selling an article, Madan earned a profit equal to one-fourth of the price he bought it. If he sold it for Rs.375, what was the cost price?

Solution

Let the cp be rs. x

then profit = x/4
sp = rs.375
profit = SP-CP
x/4 = 375 - x
x/4+x = 375
5x/4 = 375
x = 375*4/5
x = 300

hence CP = rs. 300

D is correct choice.
