Question 32

A man wears gloves of two colours - Red and Green. He has altogether 30 Red Gloves and 10 Green Gloves. Supposing he has to take out Gloves in dark, how many must he take out to be sure that he has a matching pair ?

There are 30 red gloves and 10 green gloves, so he needs to take atleast two socks, to get a pair, now there can be one sock of each colour, so to be definite sure about a matching pair, he should once again pull out a sock, and the resulting sock will definitely match with either of the earlier ones, and he will get a pair.

Thus, he needs to take 3 to be sure for a matching pair.
