Question 28

Two children differ in their age by 2 years. Six years later, the sum of their ages will be 46. How old are they now?

Solution

Let the ages of children be 'x' and 'x-2'

6 years later , ages of children be 'x+6' and 'x+4'

x+6+x+4 = 46

$$ 2x+10 = 46 $$

x=$$ \frac{36}{2} $$

x= 18

x-2=16

At present age of children = 18-6,16-6

                                       = 12 , 10
