Question 26

The statements below are followed by two conclusions labelled I and II. Assuming that the information in the statements is true, even if it appears to be at variance with generally established facts, decide which conclusion(s) logically and definitely follow(s) from the information given in the statements.
Statements:
I. Some dawns are nights.
II. No night is a noon.
III. No dawn is a dusk.
Conclusions:
I. Some dusks are nights.
II. Some noons are dawns.

Solution

Conclusion: I. Some dusks are nights.

There is not any direct relationship between 'dusks' and 'nights'. Only we can say that 'some night are not dusk.'. So the given conclusion does follow.

Conclusion: II. Some noons are dawns.

There is not any direct relationship between 'noons' and 'dawns'. Only we can say that 'some dawns are not noon.'. So the given conclusion does follow.

Hence neither conclusion I nor II follows.
