Question 22

Three-fifths of my current age is the same as five-sixths of that of one of my cousins’. My age ten years ago will be his age four years hence. My current age is ........ years.

Solution

Let my age is X and that of my cousins age is Y years.

According to question, $$\frac{3}{5}X=\frac{5}{6}Y$$ => $$X=\frac{5\times5}{6\times3}Y=\frac{25}{18}Y$$.............(i)

Also

$$X-10=Y+4$$=> $$X=Y+14$$.......(ii)

From (i) and (ii)

$$\frac{25}{18}Y=Y+14=>25Y=18Y+252$$

=> 7Y=252

=> Y= $$\frac{252}{7}=36years$$

Hence X = $$36+14=50years$$

hence option D is right answer.
