Question 181

The percentage increase in the surface area of a cube when each side is doubled is

Solution

Let side of cube = 10 units

=> Surface area = 6$$a^2$$ = 6*10*10 = 600 sq. units

New side = 2*10 = 20 units

=> New surface area = 6*20*20 = 2400 sq. units

% increase in surface area = $$\frac{2400-600}{600} * 100$$

= $$\frac{18}{6} * 100$$ = 300%
