Question 180

The perimeter of a square is thrice the perimeter of a rectangle. If the perimeter of the square is 84 cms and the length of the rectangle is 8 cms, what is the difference between the breadth of the rectangle and the side of the square ?

Solution

Let side of square be $$a$$.

Length of rectangle be $$l$$ and breadth be $$b$$.
Perimeter of square = $$4\times a=84$$.
$$a=21 cm$$.
Given $$4\times a=3\times2\times \left(l + b\right)$$.
$$2\times a = 3\times \left(l + b\right)$$.
Also given $$l=8 cm$$
$$42=24+3\times b$$.
$$3\times b = 42-24 = 18$$
$$b=6$$.
$$a-b=21-6=15 cm$$
Hence Option A is the correct answer
