The difference between Peter and Preeti’s ages is 5 years. When they married each other 35 years ago, 4 times Peter’s age was the same as 5 times the age of Preeti. What is the current sum of their ages?
Solution
Let the present age of Peter and Preeti be x and x-5 yrs respectively
then 35 yrs ago peter and preeti's ages were (x-35)and (x-5-35) = x-35, x-40 respectively.
Acc to the question
4(x-35) = 5(x -40)
4x - 140 = 5x - 200
4x - 5x = -200 + 140
x = 60
then peter's present age = x = 60 yrs
preeti's present age = 55 yrs
Sum of their ages = 115 yrs
