Question 151

In a certain code AUTOMATIC is written as PUVBMBUJD. How is BUILDINGS written in that code ?

Solution

The word AUTOMATIC is divided into three parts : AUTO , M , ATIC

I : AUTO - PUVB

The diagonally opposite element is substituted by its immediate following alphabet in the English alphabetical series.

=> A is substituted by B at its diagonally opposite position. Similarly, U is substituted by V at its diagonally opposite position and similarly T & O by U and P.

II : M - M

The middle letter is used as it is.

III : ATIC - BUJD

The opposite (not diagonally) element is substituted by its immediate following alphabet in the English alphabetical series.

=> A is substituted by B at its opposite position. Similarly T is substituted by U at its opposite position and similarly I & C by J and D.

Thus, code for BUILDINGS :

BUIL - MJVC

D - D

INGS - JOHT

$$\therefore$$ BUILDINGS - MJVCDJOHT
