Question 15

Ages of a mother and daughter are in the ratio 12 : 5. Ten years hence, she will be twice as old as her daughter. What is the sum of their ages at present?

Let the age of mother and father be 12x and 5x respectively

According to the question,

$$\frac{(12x+10)}{(5x+10)}=\frac{2}{1}$$

12x + 10 = 10x + 20

2x = 10

x = 5

Therefor, required sum= 12x + 5x = 17x = 85 years
