The difference between 20% of a number and 7/15th of the same number is 124. What is 40% of that number ?

Solution

Let the number = $$x$$

=> $$(\frac{7}{15} x) - (\frac{20}{100} x) = 124$$

=> $$(\frac{7x}{15}) - (\frac{3x}{15}) = 124$$

=> $$\frac{4x}{15} = 124$$

=> $$x = 31 \times 15 = 465$$

$$\therefore$$ 40% of 465 = $$\frac{40}{100} \times 465 = 186$$
