Question 139

The missing term which makes the following a perfect square is
_____ - 48 pq + 36 $$ q^{2} $$

Solution

48p=2x(6q)x(4p)

thus if the unknown term is 4p$$^{2}$$ we can use the formula (a-b)$$^{2}$$ to simplify it.

∴ (4p)$$^{2}$$ -48pq +36q$$^{2}$$

=(4p-6q)$$^{2}$$ which is a perfect square.

Thus,16p$$^{2}$$ is the missing term
