Question 130

The sum of two numbers is 506. If the second number is 5/18th of the first number. What is the difference between the 4/9 of the first number and 2/11 of the second number?

Solution

Let the first number be $$x$$

=> Second number = $$\frac{5x}{18}$$

Acc to ques,

=> $$x + \frac{5x}{18} = 506$$

=> $$\frac{23x}{18} = 506$$

=> $$x = \frac{506 \times 18}{23} = 396$$

$$\therefore$$ Other number = 506 - 396 = 110

Now, $$\frac{4}{9}$$ of first no. - $$\frac{2}{11}$$ of second no.

= $$(\frac{4}{9} \times 396) - (\frac{2}{11} \times 110)$$

= $$(4 \times 44) - (2 \times 10)$$

= $$176 - 20 = 156$$
