The ratio of curved surface area of two cones is 1 : 8 and the ratio of there slant heights is 1 : 4. What is the ratio of the radius of the two cones?

Solution

Curved surface area of a cone = $$\pi$$rl (where l is the slant height of the cone)

Let, $$l_{1} = x$$ and $$l_{2} = 4x$$. Now the equation can be written as,

$$\frac{\pi(r_{1})(x)}{\pi(r_{2})(4x)} = \frac{1}{8}$$

$$\frac{r_{1}}{r_{2}} = \frac{1}{2}$$

Hence, option B is the correct answer.
