Question 125

What will be the effect on the area of an isosceles triangle if all the sides are doubled in length ?

Solution

If the sides are all doubled, the semi preimeter gets doubled.

Area = $$ \sqrt {s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)}$$

New area = $$ \sqrt {2s(2s-2a)(2s-2b)(2s-2c)}$$

4 times the original area.
