Question 115

The sides of a triangle are in the ration 2 : 3 : 4. The perimeter of the triangle is 18 cm. The area (in cm2) of the triangle is

Solution

Let's say sides of a triangle are $$2x$$ , $$3x$$ and $$4x$$

So perimeter will be $$9x$$ = 18 cm. or $$x$$ = 2 cm.

Hence sides will be 4 cm , 6 cm, 8 cm.

Now apply heron's formula for calculating area of this triangle,

$$A = \sqrt{s \times (s-a) \times (s-b) \times (s-c)}$$

(where s is half perimeter of triangle and A is area, a, b and c are sides of triangle
