Question 11

In a bag, the ratio of red balls to green balls is 4 : 9. If 7 more red balls are added to the bag,the ratio of red balls to green balls will become 5 : 6. How many green balls are there in the bag?

Solution

Acc to the question, red : green = 4 : 9
So, let the number of green balls be 4x, so red balls will be 9x.

So, total balls will be 13x.

If 7 red balls are added then red : green = (4x+7) : (9x)

Also, it is said that ratio becomes 5 : 6.

Therefore, ((4x+7) : (9x) = 5:6

or, 8x+14 = 15x

or, 7x = 14

or, x = 2 i.e. red balls = 8 and green ball = 18
