JEE Advanced 2026 Dress Code

Getting ready for JEE Advanced 2026 is not just about last-minute revision. What you wear on exam day matters just as much as what you study. The IIT Roorkee, as the organizing institute for JEE Advanced 2026, has issued clear guidelines on dress code, allowed items, and exam day conduct through the official Information Brochure and the admit card released on May 11, 2026. Ignoring these rules can cause unnecessary delays during security checks or, in serious cases, denial of entry.

This blog covers everything you need to know about the JEE Advanced 2026 dress code for male and female candidates, what you can and cannot bring inside the exam hall, and a few practical tips to help you walk in confidently on May 17, 2026.

JEE Advanced 2026 Dress Code for Male

Male candidates appearing for JEE Advanced 2026 should keep their attire simple and functional. The official admit card and Information Brochure advise candidates to wear light-colored, half-sleeved clothing and to avoid anything with excess metal or complicated designs.

As per official guidelines, candidates are advised not to wear items containing metals such as rings, bracelets, chains, pendants, badges, brooches, or clothes with large buttons (JEE Advanced 2026 Information Brochure, Clause 20). This is primarily to speed up frisking at the entry gate.

Footwear: Closed-toe shoes are not permitted inside the examination hall. Candidates should wear open sandals or chappals.

JEE Advanced 2026 Dress Code for Female

Female candidates should also follow the same core principle: keep it simple, light, and metal-free. The official guidelines state that candidates must not wear charms, taweez, or items containing metals such as earrings, nose pins, rings, bracelets, chains, pendants, badges, brooches, or clothes with large buttons (JEE Advanced 2026 Information Brochure, Clause 20).

Footwear: Just like male candidates, closed-toe shoes are not permitted. Open sandals or chappals are the recommended footwear.

JEE Advanced Exam Day Guidelines 2026

IIT Roorkee has published the complete exam day instructions in the JEE Advanced 2026 Information Brochure (Clause 20) and on the admit card. Here are the key points every candidate must follow:

  • Carry a printed copy of your JEE Advanced 2026 admit card. Digital copies on mobile devices are not accepted.
  • Carry a valid original photo identity proof: Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport, Voter ID, Driving Licence, School or College ID, or a Notarized Certificate with photograph.
  • Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are compulsory. Missing either paper will result in your result not being declared.
  • Paper 1 is scheduled from 09:00 IST to 12:00 IST. Paper 2 is scheduled from 14:30 IST to 17:30 IST (JEE Advanced 2026 Information Brochure, Clause 9).
  • The entry gate closes 30 minutes before the exam start time. Candidates arriving after the gate closes will not be allowed entry under any circumstances.
  • Check your admit card for the exact reporting and gate-closing times for your centre, as these may vary.
  • Biometric verification (fingerprint and iris scan) is mandatory before entering the lab. Keep your hands clean and free of oil or cream for accurate fingerprint capture.
  • You can log in to your computer and read exam instructions 20 minutes before the paper starts. Your login ID is your JEE Advanced 2026 Roll Number and the password is your date of birth.
  • Do not change your assigned seat without permission. Impersonation or use of unfair means will lead to disqualification (JEE Advanced 2026 Information Brochure).
  • Candidates cannot leave the examination hall before the paper ends, even after finishing early.
  • PwD candidates with at least 40% impairment are eligible for one hour of compensatory time per paper. Required documents must be submitted at the registration stage (JEE Advanced 2026 Information Brochure, Clause 14).

What to Wear in JEE Advanced 2026

The JEE Advanced 2026 exam day falls on May 17, which is typically warm in most parts of India. Picking the right outfit is about both comfort and compliance. Here is a simple checklist to help you decide what to wear:

  • Choose light, breathable fabrics like cotton. You will be sitting for up to three hours at a stretch in two separate sessions.
  • Stick to half-sleeved or short-sleeved clothing. Avoid full-sleeve tops or jackets with extra padding unless medically necessary.
  • Wear clothes with minimal or no metallic elements. Even small metal buttons can trigger detectors and cause delays.
  • Flat, open footwear such as rubber chappals or simple sandals are your best option. Shoes are not allowed inside the exam hall.
  • Avoid fancy or designer clothing with studs, embroidery, or layers, as these slow down the frisking process.
  • Keep accessories to the absolute minimum. Even a simple bracelet or chain could be flagged during frisking.

The bottom line is: dress like you are going for a comfortable walk, not a formal event. Simple and practical is the way to go.

Candidates should wear simple, light-colored, metal-free clothing, open sandals, and minimal accessories. Carry only allowed items such as the admit card, valid photo ID, and basic stationery to avoid delays during security checks.

By adhering to these guidelines, candidates can focus fully on the exam without unnecessary distractions or complications. Always cross-check your admit card for centre-specific instructions, and ensure you are comfortable and compliant on exam day to maximize performance.
