CAT 2022 Slot-1 Analysis
The CAT 2022 Slot-1 exam was conducted in the Forenoon Session, i.e. 8.30 – 10.30 A.M. on November 27, 2022. As compared with CAT 2021, the exam pattern remained pretty much the same in CAT 2022. Amid mixed responses from the candidates, our faculty tried to analyse the available information to summarise the section-wise elements of CAT 2022 Slot-1 Analysis.
Overall Level of difficulty:
Section | Number of Questions | Duration | MCQs | TITA |
VARC | 24 | 40 min | 21 | 3 |
DILR | 20 | 40 min | 14 | 6 |
QA | 22 | 40 min | 14 | 8 |
Total | 66 | 120 min | 49 | 17 |

VARC Analysis (CAT 2022 Slot-1 Analysis):
Number of questions: 24
The VARC section in all three slots is similar, with the majority of the RCs asking Inference type of questions. The overall difficulty of Slot 1 VARC is Moderate-Difficult. There are 4 passages with 4 questions each. Verbal was considered easier compared with RC. A Major change in the VA section this year was that, the Odd Man Out questions were eliminated, and Fill in the Blanks/Para Completion Type questions were asked instead of them.
The VA section had 3 Parajumbles, 3 Para Summary and 2 Fill in the Blank/Para Completion Type questions. A decent attempt would be 17-19 questions.
Areas of Questions | Number of questions | Overall Difficulty level |
RC 1 | 4 | Moderate – Difficult |
RC 2 | 4 | Moderate |
RC 3 | 4 | Easy-Moderate |
RC 4 | 4 | Difficult |
Verbal Ability | ||
Para Summary | 2 Easy – Moderate, 1 Moderate | Easy-Moderate |
Para Jumbles | 2 Easy-Moderate, 1 Moderate | Easy-Moderate |
Fill the blanks/Para completion | 2 Easy | Easy |
Over All | 24 | Moderate |
- Deciding the right passage {to attempt} was challenging as three of them were on the moderate-difficult spectrum. This could have affected the attempt rate and accuracy for an average reader. The options were a bit tricky and time-consuming to eliminate as well.
- The VA section was on the moderate spectrum. At least 5 out of the 8 questions were worth attempting.

DILR Analysis (CAT 2022 Slot-1 Analysis):
The difficulty level of Slot 1 DILR Is considered Difficult. There were a total of 20 questions in 4 sets with 5 questions each. Overall, the Slot 1 DILR section was Difficult. A decent attempt would be 11-13 questions.
Set Type | Topic | No. of questions | Overall Difficulty |
Logical Reasoning | Tokens | 5 | Moderate/Difficult |
Data Interpretation | University Teams | 5 | Easy |
Data Interpretation | Metro Lines | 5 | Moderate-Difficult |
Logical Reasoning | Friends Get Together | 5 | Moderate |
Overall | 20 | Difficult |
Just as in the case of the VARC section, choosing the right set to solve was imperative here. Getting stuck on the wrong set could turn out to be costly {no opportunity for a comeback given the available time}. One of the LRDI Sets was a must-do. The other Sets were data-intensive and quite challenging.

Quantitative Aptitude (CAT 2022 Slot-1 Analysis):
The difficulty level of Slot 1 QA was Moderate. There were a total of 22 questions, with the majority of questions from Arithmetic. The section had a few sitters: needed to attempt them first; some questions were tricky but manageable. Overall Slot 1 QA section is considered Moderate. A decent attempt would be 14 questions.
Topic | No of questions | Difficulty |
Arithmetic | 9 | Easy-Moderate |
Algebra | 7 | Moderate |
Geometry & Mensuration | 3 | Moderate-Difficult |
Modern Math | 2 | Moderate |
Number System | 1 | Easy/Moderate |
Over All | 22 | Moderate |
The overall response indicated that the section was relatively easy. {perhaps the excess emphasis on arithmetic and algebra can enable us to put the section in the easy-moderate spectrum}
CAT Score Vs Percentile:
Based on the feedback received from Cracku students and our team, the estimated marks vs percentile for individual sections and overall is as follows:
Percentile | VARC | DILR | QA | Total |
99 | 38 | 29 | 38 | 98-100 |
95 | 30 | 22 | 30 | 72 |
90 | 26 | 18 | 22 | 58 |

80 | 20 | 14 | 16 | 45 |
70 | 17 | 10 | 14 | 40 |
Note: These are only expected percentiles as per our deep understanding, and actual percentiles may vary from these.
CAT 2022 RESPONSE SHEET
The cutoffs are very difficult to predict as of now; the overall difficulty of CAT was considered difficult this year. Hence, the cutoffs are expected to drop slightly this year. Also, the CAT 2022 questions and CAT 2022 Response Sheet (with CAT answer key) are expected to release in a week. We will update you immediately once the CAT 2022 Offcial Answer key is out.
