A set of 125 small 1 x 1 x 1 cubes are arranged to form a 5 x 5 x 5 cube. How many cubes (including the original) can be formed with vertices chosen from these points such that their faces are parallel to those of the original cube? I can't even understand what they are asking. which one is original cube?

Hi Dhruv. The wording seems ambiguous. I will try to answer using what I interpreted: The original cube here should refer to the 5x5x5 cube that is formed. I believe 'vertices chosen from these points' means that at least one of the vertices of this original cube should be common to the cubes we are trying to form: Take the left-bottom vertice. We can form a 1x1 cube that has a common vertice. This is equivalent to the 1x1x1 cube present in that corner of the larger cube. We can form a 2x2x2 cube too. This will be equivalent to the 8 cubes present in the left-bottom of the larger cube. Similarly, we can form 3x3x3 and 4x4x4 cubes, which gives us 4 cubes with 1 vertice common. We can do this for each of the 8 vertices, giving us 32 different cubes. If we try to have more than 1 vertice common, one side of the formed cube will be 5 units, giving us the original cube itself, hence, 33 cubes. It has not been given that we need to form the cubes only inside. We could form similar cubes outside the contours of the original cube, increasing the number of cases. Also, it has not been given that we can only use the 125 cubes. Then we can form infinitely many cubes. It is better to altogether avoid such vague worded questions. Hope this helps.

Hello cracku team, have you reduced the number of questions in DashCAT 9? Because when i gave the mock there was 76 questions but now at the time of analyzing the mocks am unable to find those questions which i've attempted especially in QUANTS?? I want to analyze those questions !!!

Hi Let velocity of P be Vp, Q be Vq, R be Vr and S be Vs and lead given by P to all of them be T seconds Now R takes 180 seconds to complete the race so his speed = 800/180 = 40/9 m/s Now P beats R at 200 m mark So we can say 200/Vp +T =200/Vr Substituting Vr we get 200/Vp +T =45 (1) Now P overtakes S at 400 m mark we get 400/Vp +T =400/Vs (2) Now it is given that P beats S by 20 seconds So as we know at 400m mark both P and S are together so in remaining 400 meters P covers those 400 meters 20 seconds faster than S so we get 400/vp +20 =400/vs (3) From (2) and (3) we get T=20 seconds Substituting in (1) we get Vp= 8m/s Now P beats Q at 160m mark so we get 160/vp +T=160/Vq we get 40=160/Vq so Vq=4m/sec So Time by Q to complete 800 m 800/4=200seconds so R beat Q by 20 seconds

Hi As per the official media release document by CAT authorities, it states that the number of questions will be reduced however what will be the exact number of questions is not informed by them and is unlikely they will release that. However to make students accustomed to the new pattern we have reduced half of our mocks to 24-20-24 and other half to 23-22-23.We expect the number of questions in actual CAT to be in this range only.
