Point P (8 , 5) is the midpoint of segment AB. Co-ordinates of A are (5, y) and B are (x, -3). What is the value of x?
Solution
Mid-point = $$(\frac{x_{1}+x_{2}}{2} , \frac{y_{1}+y_{2}}{2})$$Â $$\Rightarrow \frac{5+x}{2}=8 \Rightarrow x = 16 - 5 = 11$$
so the answer is option B.
