Question 89

An engineering student has to secure 25% marks to pass. He gets 56 and fails by 34 marks. Find the maximum marks.

Solution

Let maximum marks = $$100x$$

=> Passing marks = $$\frac{25}{100} \times 100x = 25x$$

According to ques,

=> $$25x - 34 = 56$$

=> $$25x = 56 + 34 = 90$$

=> $$x = \frac{90}{25} = 3.6$$

$$\therefore$$ Maximum marks = $$100 \times 3.6 = 360$$
