The slope of the line passing through the points (7,-2) and (x,1) is -3/10. Find x.

Solution

Slope of line passing through $$(x_1,y_1)$$ and $$(x_2,y_2)$$ is $$\frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1}$$

=> Slope of the line passing through the points (7,-2) and (x,1)

= $$\frac{1 + 2}{x - 7} = \frac{-3}{10}$$

=> $$\frac{3}{x - 7} = \frac{-3}{10}$$

=> $$x - 7 = -10$$

=> $$x = -10 + 7 = -3$$

=> Ans - (D)
