Two trains running in opposite directions cross a man standing on the platform in 27 seconds and 17 seconds respectively and they cross each other in 23 seconds. The ratio of the their speed is:
Let the lengths of train be x and y.
Now their speed is (x/27) and (y/17)
Also, they cross each other in 23 seconds.
(x/27) + (y/17) = (x+y)/23
We get (4/621)x = (6/291)y
(x/27)*(4/23) = (102/291)*(y/17)
(x/27)/(y/17) = (102/291)*(23/4)
Ratio of speed = (391/194)
Option D is the correct answer.
