Question 85

A sum of Rs 720 amounts to Rs 882 at simple interest in $$1\frac{1}{2}$$ years. In how many years will the sum Rs 800 amounts to Rs 1040 at the same rate?

Solution

Let rate of interest = $$r\%$$

Simple interest for $$1\frac{1}{2}=\frac{3}{2}$$ years = $$(882-720)=Rs.$$ $$162$$

=> $$\frac{P\times r\times t}{100}=162$$

=> $$\frac{720\times r\times\frac{3}{2}}{100}=162$$

=> $$10.8r=162$$

=> $$r=\frac{162}{10.8}=15\%$$

Let time taken when Rs 800 amounts to Rs 1040 = $$t$$ years

=> $$\frac{800\times15\times t}{100}=(1040-800)$$

=> $$120t=240$$

=> $$t=\frac{240}{120}=2$$ years

=> Ans - (A)
