Question 84

Two trains are moving in the opposite direction at speed of 30 km/hr and 45 km/hr respectively, whose lengths are 450 m and 550 m respectively. What is the time taken (in seconds) by slower train to cross the faster train?

Solution

Since, the trains are moving in opposite directions, relative speed of train = 30 + 45 = 75 km/hr

= $$(75\times\frac{5}{18})$$ m/s = $$\frac{125}{6}$$ m/s

Sum of lengths of trains = 450 + 550 = 1000 m

Time taken = length/speed

= $$\frac{1000}{\frac{125}{6}}$$

= $$1000\times\frac{6}{125}=48$$ sec

=> Ans - (A)
