Question 74

The height of a right circular cone is 24 cm. If the radius of its base is 7 cm, then what will be the curved surface area of this cone? [Use $$\pi = \frac{22}{7}$$]

Solution

The height of a right circular cone is 24 cm. If the radius of its base is 7 cm.

$$slant\ height\ =\ \sqrt{\ radius^2+height^2}$$

$$slant\ height\ =\ \sqrt{\ 7^2+24^2}$$

$$slant\ height\ =\ \sqrt{\ 49+576}$$
$$slant\ height\ =\ \sqrt{625}$$
$$slant\ height\ =\ 25$$ cm
Curved surface area of this cone = $$\pi\times radius\times\ slant\ height$$
= $$\frac{22}{7}\times7\times25$$
= $$22\times1\times25$$
= 550 $$cm^{2}$$
