Question 72

A train 200 m long running, at a speed of 36 km/h, takes 55 seconds to cross a bridge completely. What is the length of the bridge?

Solution

A train 200 m long running, at a speed of 36 km/h, takes 55 seconds to cross a bridge completely.

speed = 36 km/h

= $$\frac{36\times1000}{3600}$$

= 10 m/s

Let's assume the length of the bridge is 'b'.

$$\frac{length\ of\ train+length\ of\ bridge}{time}\ =\ speed$$

$$\frac{200+b}{55}\ =\ 10$$
$$200+b\ =\ 550$$
$$b\ =\ 550-200$$
$$b\ =\ 350$$

length of the bridge = 350 m
