Question 70

An engineering student has to secure 36% marks to pass. He gets 53 and fails by 37 marks. Find the maximum marks.

Solution

Let maximum marks = $$100x$$

=> Passing marks = $$\frac{36}{100} \times 100x = 36x$$

According to ques,

=> $$36x - 37 = 53$$

=> $$36x = 53 + 37 = 90$$

=> $$x = \frac{90}{36} = 2.5$$

$$\therefore$$ Maximum marks = $$100 \times 2.5 = 250$$
