Let the capacity of the tank be 144 units (LCM of 48 and 72)
Efficiency of Pipe X = 144/48 = 3 units per minute
Efficiency of Pipe Y = 144/72 = 2 units per minute
Total efficiency of both the pipes = 5 units per minute
Then, 144 units of tank will be filled in 144/5 = 28.8 minutes.
