In a school examination, 60% of the students failed in English, while 70% passed in Hindi. If 20% of the students failed in both subjects, what percentage of students passed in both English and Hindi?
We know that
n( A U B ) = n(A) + n( B ) - n (A ∩ B)
=> Here we know that 60 percent students have failed in English and 30 % failed in Hindi. Thus, for passed students we have
n( A U B ) = 60 + 30 - 20
=> n( A U B ) = 70
Hence, 70 % people failed in at least one subject.
Thus, 30 % must have passed in both the subjects.
