Question 66

A bag has ₹420 in the denomination of ₹1, ₹2 and ₹5 coins. The number ₹1, ₹2 and ₹5 coins are in the ratio of 8:1:5. How many coins of ₹5 are in the bag?

Solution

Let the number of Rs.1, Rs.2 and Rs,5 coins in the bag be 8x, x and 5x coins respectively.
Then, Value of Rs.1 coins = 8x*1 = Rs.8x
Value of Rs.2 coins = x*2 = Rs.2x
Value of Rs.5 coins = 5x*5 = Rs.25x
Total value of money in the bag = Rs.8x+Rs.2x+Rs.25x = Rs.35x
Given, 35x = 420 => x = 12
Therefore, Number of Rs.5 coins in the bag = 5x = 5*12 = 60 coins.
