Manish goes to his hometown at the speed of 40 km/hr and returns to his home at the speed of Y km/hr. Distance between his home and hometown is 360 km. If he takes total 21 hours, then what is the value of Y?
Solution
Given, Distance between his home and hometown = 360 km
Onward speed = 40 km/hr
Time taken = $$\dfrac{360}{40} = 9$$ hours
Return speed = Y km/hr
Time taken = $$\dfrac{360}{Y}$$ km/hr
Total time taken = 21 hours
=> $$9+\dfrac{360}{Y} = 21$$
=> $$\dfrac{9Y+360}{Y} = 21$$
=> $$9Y+360 = 21Y$$
=> $$12Y = 360$$
=> $$Y = 30$$
