given the average weight of 38 students is 42 kg
$$\frac{\left(sum\ of\ weights\right)}{38}$$ =42
sum of weights=1596
it was found that 46 is misread as 26
so we should add the value of 46-26=20 to the sum and find the average
$$\frac{\left(1596+20\right)}{38}$$
=>42.5
hence answer is option A
