470 liters of a mixture of milk and water contains 5% of water. A mischievous boy added some water in the mixture and now there is 6% water in the new mixture. Find the quantity of water added by the boy in the mixture.
470 liters of a mixture of milk and water contains 5% of water.
initial quantity of water =Â 470 of 5%
= $$470\times\frac{5}{100}$$
=Â 23.5
initial quantity of milk =Â 470-23.5
=Â 446.5
A mischievous boy added some water in the mixture and now there is 6% water in the new mixture.
Let's assume the quantity of water added by the boy in the mixture is 'y' liters.
$$\frac{446.5}{23.5+y}\ =\ \frac{\left(100-6\right)}{6}$$
$$\frac{446.5}{23.5+y}\ =\ \frac{94}{6}$$
$$\frac{9.5}{23.5+y}\ =\ \frac{1}{3}$$
$$28.5\ =\ 23.5+y$$
y =Â 28.5-23.5y = 5Â liters
