Question 63

The variance of a set of data is 144. Then the standard deviation of the data is:

Solution

We are given that the variance of the data values in a sample = 144

Since we know that the value of variance is the square of standard deviation.

Therefore, to find the value of standard deviation by using variance, we need to find the square root of the variance.

i.e.

Standard Deviation = $$\sqrt{\text{Variance}}$$

Standard Deviation = $$\sqrt{144}=\sqrt{12^2} = 12$$
