Question 62

What is the median of the given data?
41, 43, 46, 50, 85, 61, 76, 55, 68, 95

Solution

Arrange the given data in ascending order.

41, 43, 46, 50, 55, 61, 68, 76, 85, 95

n = number of given data

n = 10

median = $$\frac{\left(\frac{n}{2}\right)^{th\ term}\ +\ \left(\frac{n}{2}+1\right)^{th\ term}}{2}$$

= $$\frac{\left(\frac{10}{2}\right)^{th\ term}\ +\ \left(\frac{10}{2}+1\right)^{th\ term}}{2}$$

= $$\frac{5^{th\ term}\ +\ \left(5+1\right)^{th\ term}}{2}$$

= $$\frac{5^{th\ term}\ +\ 6^{th\ term}}{2}$$

= $$\frac{55+61}{2}$$

= $$\frac{116}{2}$$

= 58
