The ratio of two positive numbers is 9 : 11. Their product is 6336. What is the smallest number?

Solution

Let the two numbers be $$9x$$ and $$11x$$ respectively.

Product = $$9x\times11x=6336$$

=> $$99x^2=6336$$

=> $$x^2=\frac{6336}{99}=64$$

=> $$x=\sqrt{64}=8$$

$$\therefore$$ Smaller number = $$9\times8=72$$

=> Ans - (B)
