Question 59

If the height of an equilateral triangle is 12 cm, then what is the area of the triangle?

Solution

Let the side of the equilateral triangle = $$a$$

Given, height of the equilateral triangle = 12 cm

$$=$$>  $$\frac{\sqrt{3}}{2}a=12$$

$$=$$>  $$a=\frac{24}{\sqrt{3}}$$

$$\therefore\ $$Area of the equilateral triangle = $$\frac{\sqrt{3}}{4}a^2$$

$$=\frac{\sqrt{3}}{4}\left(\frac{24}{\sqrt{3}}\right)^2$$

$$=\frac{\sqrt{3}}{4}\times\frac{24\times24}{3}$$

$$=$$ 83.1384 $$cm^2$$

Hence, the correct answer is Option B
