Question 58

The difference between compound interest and simple interest on ₹x at 6.5% per annum for 2 years is ₹33.80. What is the value of x?

Solution

Given, the difference between compound interest and simple interest for 2 years = ₹33.80

Rate (R%) = 6.5%

Principal (P) = ₹x

From the formula, difference between compound interest and simple interest for 2 years = $$P\left(\frac{R}{100}\right)^2$$

$$=$$>   $$33.8=x\times\left(\frac{6.5}{100}\right)^2\ $$

$$=$$>  $$x=\frac{33.8\times100\times100}{6.5\times6.5}$$

$$=$$>  $$x=₹8000$$

Hence, the correct answer is Option B
