Question 58

A square has beeninscribed in a circle. What is the ratio of the length of a side of the square to the radius of the circle?

Solution

Let the side of square be x

Diagonal of square = diameter of circle = $$d^2=2\ x^2$$

                                                          d=$$\sqrt{\ 2}x$$ and r= $$\frac{x}{\sqrt{\ 2}}$$

Required ratio = x : $$\frac{x}{\sqrt{\ 2}}$$ = $$\sqrt{\ 2}:1$$
