A car covers a certain distance in 25 hrs. If it reduces the speed by $$\frac{1}{5}$$ th, the car covers 200 km less in that time. The speed of car is 

Solution

Let speed of car initially = $$5x$$ km/hr

Time taken = 25 hours

=> Distance covered by car initially = $$25 \times 5x=125x$$ km

If speed is reduced by $$(\frac{1}{5})^{th}$$, new speed = $$5x-\frac{1}{5} \times 5x=4x$$ km/hr

=> Distance covered in 25 hours = $$25 \times 4x=100x$$ km

According to ques,

=> $$125x-100x=200$$

=> $$25x=200$$

=> $$x=\frac{200}{25}=8$$

$$\therefore$$ Speed of car = $$5 \times 8=40$$ km/hr

=> Ans - (C)
