Question 56

a, b and c are 3 values, such that a + b = 5, b + c = 7.5 and c + a = 8.5. What will be the average of these values?

Solution

Given : $$a+b=5$$ ----------(i)

$$b+c=7.5$$ ----------(ii)

$$c+a=8.5$$ ------------(iii)

Adding equations (i),(ii) and (iii), we get :

=> $$2a+2b+2c=5+7.5+8.5$$

=> $$2(a+b+c)=21$$

=> $$a+b+c=\frac{21}{2}$$

$$\therefore$$ Average of these values = $$\frac{(a+b+c)}{3}$$

= $$\frac{21}{2}\times\frac{1}{3}=\frac{7}{2}=3.5$$

=> Ans - (C)
