Question 54

What is the LCM of the fractions (2/3), (8/15) and (4/27) ?

Solution

LCM of the fractions (2/3), (8/15) and (4/27) = $$\frac{LCM\ of\ Numerators}{HCf\ of\ deno\min ators}$$

= $$\frac{LCM\ of\ \left(2,\ 8\ and\ 4\right)}{HCF\ of\ \left(3,\ 15\ and\ 27\right)}$$

= $$\frac{8}{3}$$

LCM of (2, 8 and 4)

2 = $$2\times1$$

8 = $$2\times2\times2\times1$$

4  = $$2\times2\times1$$

So the LCM of these is 8.

HCF of (3, 15 and 27)

3 = $$3\times1$$

15 = $$5\times3\times1$$

27 = $$3\times3\times3\times1$$

So the HCF of these is 3.
